An evening in Paradisco

December 1, 2002, World AIDS Day. At the ‘Auditorium du Forum des Images' in Paris, the cast of Paradisco - a film by Stéphane Ly-Cuong  with music by Patrick Laviosa - commemorated this unique day with music.

December 1, 2002 : nearly 500 people were brought together on this evening, at the 'Auditorium du Forum des Images' to commemorate the World AIDS Day, in a rather unusual way.
Within the programme, Stéphane Ly-Cuong's short musical film, Paradisco, which evokes the themes of memories and mourning but in a light and musical fashion, as well as songs from French and English musicals sung by the cast members of the film. The evening was sponsored by the AIDS Information Service and the producers of Paradisco, Athanor Studio.

The applause was already heartfelt and warm, when the evening was initially presented by Arnaud Cazet, one of the founders of Regard en Coulisse, who was hosting the evening, but was even more so after the 18 minutes of the film's screening. Charmed, moved, amused, touched, the audience was  visibly impressed by this work  and let it known with their endless enthusiastic applause.

And one has to comment about Stéphane Ly-Cuong's  tremendous achievement of bringing together an impressive cast of no less than 33 performers from musical theatre - Jerome Pradon, Anthony Rapp, Ann' So, Barbara Scaff, Grégori Baquet, Sinan, Alexandre Bonstein, Laurent Ban among many others.

The creative team then came to talk about the background and creation of the film, followed by the guest speaker from the AIDS Information Service, who explained his daily work of information and prevention. Between the interviews conducted by Arnaud Cazet, the audience appreciated some  great musical numbers. The women from the film, opened with a moving version of "Hard Candy Christmas" from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. The guys  sang an unusual version of "Toujours Jamais" from Les Demoiselles de Rochefort. Jérôme Pradon and Anthony Rapp gave us two emotional moments, Jérôme  with "Seul devant ces tables vides" from Les Misérables, which itself evokes feelings of mourning and sorrow on having lost someone close, Anthony with a masterly interpretation of "Without You", from Rent.  Lastly, the whole cast ended the evening with "Seasons of Love" full of optimism.....and love!

This particular day was thus finished with a touch of hope and emotion,  just to recall to everyone that life goes on, in laughter and music.
