Paradisco

PARADISCO – Short musical film, directed by Stéphane Ly-Cuong.

Short musical films are indeed all too rare. But for Stéphane Ly-Cuong, it’s natural for him to set his films to music for the cinema.

For his third film, he brings together an exceptional cast from many successful musicals - Jérôme Pradon (Les Misérables, Miss Saïgon, Martin Guerre, Jesus Christ Superstar), Grégori Baquet ( Roméo & Juliette), Barbara Scaff (Les années Twist & Zazous, Les Misérables), Laurent Ban (Notre Dame de Paris, Le Petit Prince) amongst many others…..

This achievement doesn’t stop there, Paradisco is paradoxically a festive musical with themes of memories and mourning. One of the film’s successes is how it rouses several atmospheres together, in tune to only one disco-type song. The title track, Paradisco (which lasts approximately ten minutes), was especially composed for the film by Patrick Laviosa. Love, friendship, nostalgia, humour, joy and hope are the many emotions which transports the audience into this wonderful musical world.

Paradisco tells the story of two lovers, 40 year-old François and 20 year-old Nicolas, who find themselves in the middle of the 1979-1980 New Years Eve celebrations, with a magical touch of memory flash-back. François remembers the appeal and attraction of the Seventies, where everyone had the same ideals on life; unconcern and optimism. With the years of AIDS, a good many of his friends have passed away but he remembers them all with happiness, and tries to convey these feelings, from his own younger years, to his new lover. The film is a bonding between two generations, both of whom are full of hope, those of the Seventies and those of today and it tries to present to us all, how to respect each others differences, regardless of age, gender or race.
